From Athens to Syria …
The typical method of dealing with the social struggles in Turkey with tortures and state murders carries on and intensifies by Erdogan’s fascist regime. As class contradictions in the country deepen, and the conflict between the revolutionary and the suppressive state forces becomes more violent, new names are added to the long list of murdered fighters alongside those of Berkin Elvan, Dilek Doğan , Günay Özarslan, the dead of the Suruç massacre, the victims of the Ankara bombing, all those who died in the fight against F-type prisons.
Since the coup d’état attempt in July 2016 to date, Turkey remains in a permanent state of emergency. A regime that does not even keep up appearances anymore, such as those usually employed by the political establishment of bourgeois “democracy”, parliamentarianism and the “free market” to disguise its anthropophagic policies.
Imperialism and the Erdogan regime, its local affiliates in Turkey, do not need them and do not waste their time on such details. They support and are supported by a state structure with clear fascist features. It is not just the revolutionary organizations, not just anarchists and communists. Anyone resisting or simply expressing themselves negative against the state, lose their job, are targeted, captured and often murdered. Fear is the daily pain of millions of people. Even a comment or a critique against the state on the social media can get someone to prison. The thousands that have been made redundant and/or kept detained give the scale of this bleak reality.
On the one hand, it’s fear. On the other, propaganda. While the state and the ruling class sidekicks kill and imprison people, Erdogan serves to the most integrated part of society, a cheap spectacle of supposedly ranting anti-Americanism and anti-Germanism which, of course, apart from the fact that it falls within the frame of the usual and inevitable intra-imperialist antagonisms, (the hyenas quarrel with each other over claiming a bigger part of their prey but that is after they have killed it all together), at the same time it aims at boosting the nationalist and religious fanaticism and at the further strengthening of the role of the fascist army and security forces.
Of course, the cockfight between the US and the EU in no way prevents the Turkish state from participating in the massacres of civilians in Syria, honoring its role as a good ally and geostrategically upgraded partner of international imperialism.
In fact, the regime is angry only with the people who fight. Prisons, purges, social exclusion, tortures, murders are the inhumane everyday life for those who chose to stand up against the monster.
Within this dystopic condition, Nuriye Gülmen, a professor amongst the thousands who suddenly lost their jobs, dared to start a long-term fight in Ankara against the layoffs.
Together with the also dismissed teacher Semih Özakça they went on a hunger strike on 9 March 2017.
Despite police repression and arrests, their voice was heard loud, united with the voices of other oppressed people as well in and out of Turkey.
On May 22, the 76th day of the hunger strike, the anti-terrorist unit arrested them and the following day they were detained under the accusation that their resistance could turn into a rebellion, as well as for involvement in a terrorist organization.
Being in prison now and with their state of health being at a critical stage, they continue their long-standing hunger strike, claiming their demands, resisting the fascist AKP regime.
No one can remain idle and neutral against the persecution of fighters. Having our thoughts on Nuriye, Semih and all the other comrades who sacrifice their lives and freedom for the vision of another world, we attacked the offices of Turkish Airlines.
Every comrade tortured in the hands of the state and the class enemy is an open wound on the body of the social revolution.
